Hwa-Chong Info-communications Challenge 2025 Registration (Competition Training)

The Hwa Chong Info-communications Challenge (HCIC) is a yearly coding competition organized by Hwa Chong Institution that aims to inspire primary school students in the field of info-communications and recognize young talents in programming, coding, and robotics.

COMPETITION DETAILS

Primary 6 Students ONLY
Date of Competition: 22 May 2025
Focus of competition: Programming logic, Python programming language, robotics knowledge

Mode of Competition:
● HCIC will be conducted online in the afternoon
● Venue: The respective primary schools of the participating students

Only MOE schools can register their students for the competition. Empire Code will send a reminder to you to approach your school for the registration in advance.

Our Competition Training Program

Our goal is to prepare students for HCIC through intensive revision on basic programming principles while strengthening their computational thinking to understand and answer programming and coding related questions. Students will also gain a deeper understanding towards common processes in robotics (line-following, movement, obstacle avoidance) throughout their training as well as basic physics topics that are commonly tested in this competition

Pre-Requirements

For Empire Code Students:
● Complete Python Basics course
● Complete LEGO SPIKE Prime Level 1 course

For non-Empire Code Students:
● Students MUST have prior Python coding experience, and/or Robotics experience
● Attend our FREE 30-min assessment before undergoing HCIC training

Competition Training Details

Training Duration:
10 weeks starting the week of 3 March 2025 (20 hours in total)

Training Schedule:
(Choose one of the following options:)
Tuesdays 5.30pm to 7.30pm
Thursdays 4pm to 6pm
Saturdays 9am to 11am
Sundays 10am to 12pm

Competition Training Fee: $800* without laptop rental

Competition Materials Fee (including an Empire Code T-shirt): $30
*Empire Code DSA students can apply their DSA Package towards this training.

Training will include past-year exam papers and Empire Code’s in-house mock papers to prepare students for the competition. Students are strongly encouraged to revise independently at home.
